Restricted Diet

Something new in my life and predominantly taking up all my time is my new restricted diet. As more friends and family learn about this I get asked a lot of the same questions. Thus, here is a little snippet to some of the most common questions.

Common questions

Why?

After learning that I would eventually have to deal with some autoimmune things, I happened to meet another woman with an autoimmune disorder from Canada. She shared with me that changing your diet, focusing on cutting out inflammatory foods, has greatly helped her symptoms go away. I read up on a bunch of different diets and the pros and cons of them that dealt with autoimmune issues. Ultimately, I felt strongly about one and here we are.

What?

I decided to do a 90 day cleanse, essentially following, self titled “Medical Medium”, Anthony William’s thyroid cleansing diet. This means that I am now gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, corn-free, canola-free, and pork-free. Also, every morning I drink 16 fluid ounces of pure celery juice and generally stay mega hydrated as much as my bladder can handle! haha

The cleanse is broken up into 30 day increments focusing on a specific thing. My first month has been all about cleansing the liver and healing the gut. The second month is about detoxifying heavy metals in my body. And the third month is about thyroid repair. I have decided to focus on the first two months to start and then decide if I want to try the thyroid repair or repeat another month for my final 30 days.

And..?

Through this process I have learned that, though I do not have any food allergies, I am highly sensitive to certain foods (specifically gluten). I feel great. I still eat sweets but am still trying to cut those down. I have lost some weight but I think that is more due to inflammation than to diet. Ultimately, I didn’t really have any symptoms before so I have nothing to cross reference but I feel good and I eat better.

What next?

I will continue to eat the way I do now but if I want to eat some pizza, I will go grab a slice. I won’t be as strict but I can’t deny how much better I feel eating more homemade meals focusing on veggies and lean meat.
